The chain's moment of inertia/rotational velocity and the fact that the simulation is 2D (and not 3D) also probably helped quite a bit.

Since the number of their ranks in the events were 1 and 7, you add those two numbers up, and divide by 2. (Because there were two ranks). So in this scenario, the average placement would be 4. To use Teal's as an example: despite her ups and downs, you can see her overall trend was that her average rank slowly increased until around day nine/ten, and then declined thereafter.
